Woodstock Nursing Consultant Certified as Planetree Fellow in Person-Centered Care

Woodstock, N.B., September 15, 2021 — Cheyanne Wyers-Culbert, Leadership Nursing Consultant at Beacon Clinical Group, is the second person in Canada to be certified by Planetree International as a Planetree Fellow in Person-Centered Care. This prestigious status establishes Wyers-Culbert as someone who has spent time learning about person-centered care, putting that knowledge into action to create change and sharing what she has learned with others.

Given Beacon Clinical Group’s commitment to person-centered care, I felt there may be some
opportunities to tie my personal achievement to the organization’s broader vision for how care is delivered

commented Wyers-Culbert, who is one of only 84 people in the world with this certification. “I’m very proud to be named a Fellow. It is not only an exciting professional honour, but it means a great deal to me personally as well.”

As a registered nurse for 17 years, Wyers-Culbert has incorporated professionalism and exemplary standards into her career spanning acute care, long-term care, teaching baccalaureate nursing students, research coordination and senior nursing leadership positions.

She is the recipient of several provincial and national awards for excellence in person-centered care, geriatrics and long-term care. Her commitment to ongoing learning and development is evident in her portfolio which includes a Diploma in University Teaching, Masters Degree in Nursing Education and numerous publications and speaking engagements.

Always striving for best practice and innovation, Wyers-Culbert formed Beacon Clinical Group in the winter of 2020 in response to the need for quality long-term care consultation within the Canadian landscape. She is a practical, pragmatic, and down-to-earth leader, who enjoys bringing out the best in others. As a relationship-based leader, Wyers-Culbert seeks to understand the complexity of the problem and provide meaningful solutions that are sustainable in any organization.

Wyers-Culbert offers mentoring to nursing leaders, project management skills and education opportunities. She has carefully cultivated a group of interdisciplinary consultants who can assist health care organizations with all of their clinical, education and leadership needs.

Beacon Clinical Group offers consultation to new and existing health care facilities during transitional periods or with special projects/new builds. The focus of the group’s work is on sustainable leadership, person-centered care and project management.

They also deliver tailored education to businesses and health care facilities to keep their employees current with best practice standards (e.g., First Aid and CPR certification, Heart Math, leadership, person-centered approaches to dementia care). This network of professionals has been carefully cultivated to match experience, values and ethics.
Although the formation of the clinical group is new, these professionals have been working together on projects for over a decade in various capacities.

“We know what it took to achieve this credential and on behalf of everyone at Planetree International, I’d like to extend my heartfelt congratulations,” wrote Susan Frampton, PhD, President of Planetree, in a letter to Wyers Culbert. “Planetree was founded on the conviction that one person can make a profound difference in how healthcare is delivered. The Planetree Fellow in Person-Centered Care Program returns us to those roots by creating an avenue to recognize individuals like yourself who are bringing person-centered care principles to life around the world.”

Frampton stated that Planetree Fellows are driven in their work to advance person-centered care because it is the right thing to do for patients, families and healthcare professionals. “Being able to achieve this unique credential is an added benefit — but a benefit we encourage you to celebrate and leverage as a key milestone in your professional journey,” she wrote.
