General Overview
This course was previously known as the Director of Nursing in Long Term Care Course (2020-2022).
This course bridges the gap between competent nurse to successful nurse leader in a long-term care setting within New Brunswick. This foundational course provides direction to licensed nurses as they begin their career in leadership in long term care. The content is divided into discovery units that explore key skills and includes practical homework each week that involves skill translation through practical application.
In addition to the personal skills acquisition, the weekly course cohort becomes a cohesive group of nurse leaders with similar goals and attributes that act as a resource for each other moving forward. The impact of this peer support cannot be underestimated as these nurse leaders navigate the responsibilities of the role in their individual home.
Course Format and Dates
- Classes are taught online using Zoom video conferencing, class may be recorded for participants if they are unable to attend.
- Classes are held weekly over twelve weeks (12 classes)
- English and French course delivery options
- Class time is expected to be Tuesdays from 9:30am to 11:30am

New Brunswick LPN Rehabilitation Course - Accepting Applications
Spring 2026
General Objectives
To provide advanced competency training to bridge the entry level competencies of Licensed Practical Nurse to the fulfill the role of LPN Rehabilitation Assistant in long term care facilities in New Brunswick. This role involves understanding and collaborating with the following specialties to optimize functioning for the resident of the nursing home:
- Speech Language Pathology (swallowing and communication referral requests)
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Audiology
- Dietician (including nutrition and adaptive aids)
Course Format and Dates
- Hybrid model including online learning and onsite preceptorship with a mentor
- Theory Classes: 36 hours
- 12 course modules that include pre-recorded videos, readings and assignments using an online learning management program
- Minimum grade of 70% on all assignments is required to receive credit for course
- Preceptorship: 36 hours
- Supervised preceptorship with mentors working the role currently
- 36 hours in total (over a minimum of five days onsite)
- Students have twelve months from date of registration to complete all course components (theory and preceptorship)
