LPN Rehabilitation Course

Course Objectives: To provide advanced competency training to bridge the entry level competencies of Licensed Practical Nurse to the fulfill the role of LPN Rehabilitation Assistant in long term care facilities in New Brunswick. This role involves understanding and collaborating with the following specialties to optimize functioning for the resident of the nursing home:
- Speech Language Pathology (swallowing and communication referral requests)
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Audiology
- Dietician (including nutrition and adaptive aids)
Course Facilitator: Amy McNair, OT, Beacon Clinical Group.
Amy is a dedicated Occupational Therapist who specializes in long-term care consulting and direct care for adults in residential settings across New Brunswick. Her approach is deeply collaborative, as she works closely with clients, their caregivers, and medical professionals to ensure that custom care plans enrich the lives of those served. She blends health science with personal connection to help clients engage in meaningful daily activities.
Each day, Amy navigates the complexities of long-term care while advocating for meaningful improvements to our daily practices, facilities, and services. With over twenty-one years of experience, the most fulfilling aspect of her role is engaging with clients and celebrating their unique stories. By co-creating tailored solutions beyond simple fixes, Amy illustrates how Occupational Therapy can transform lives through a blend of expertise and compassion.
Course Format:
- Hybrid model including online learning and onsite preceptorship with a mentor
- Theory Classes: 36 hours
- 12 course modules that include pre-recorded videos, readings and assignments using an online learning management program
- Minimum grade of 70% on all assignments is required to receive credit for course
- Preceptorship: 36 hours
- Supervised preceptorship with mentors working the role currently
- 36 hours in total (over a minimum of five days onsite)
- Students have twelve months from date of registration to complete all course components (theory and preceptorship)
Course Registration and Fees:
- Registration is open to all active NB LPNs in good standing
- Cost is $1295 and is payable before the start of the course
- Certification is issued upon successful completion of both theory and preceptorship portions
